F1: Renault: Heidfeld already leading team

Renault: Heidfeld already leading team By Dieter Rencken and Matt Beer Sunday, February 27th 2011, 10:59 GMT Renault team boss Eric Boullier says it was obvious from Nick Heidfeld's first few laps in the car that he was the man the squad needed to lead its 2011 charge in the absence of the injured Robert Kubica. Heidfeld will fill in alongside Vitaly Petrov at Renault until Kubica recovers from the multiple injuries he suffered in a rally crash three weeks ago. The German had a test audition for Renault before being snapped up, and Boullier said he was very impressed by the way Heidfeld immediately took charge. Related posts:

1937 ford " Weedster" speedster WIP update 3/28

I started this project as a forum build for another site, but wanted to share it here as well.

The idea i had was to build a low sleek roadster, or "speedster"  ultra modern style 37 ford convertible. I started with a stock Revell body and decided to section it 1/8" to get a sleeker appearance. Since I had never sectioned a body this was uncharted territory for me.  I started by taping the body where I wanted to make my cut, then shot some gray primer on the taped line of the body. Once that dried, I used a razor saw and made the cuts on the body. I had to seperate the front half form the rear half, as I will have to splice in a piece of styrene or old body to make up the length the top half of the body now will be.So far I'm pretty pleased with the progress

I also added a rear section from a tbird kit to give it that "speedster" look.

1970 Mustang Boss 302 & Camaro Z28

Hi everyone, this is my 1st post on this forum.

I'm just finished with those 2 builds.

The monogram Boss 302 is painted with mmaster's grabber blue. Even if it was the 3rd time i built this kit (1st build in 1995, now joined the "junkyard" for parts, built the boss 429 in 1999),i still had fun doing it.

The Amt Z28 is painted with mmaster's bright green metallic, and was supposed to have the black stripes. I teared one, getting distracted by the hockey game i was watching. NEVER again i will do decals with the habs playing on tv!!!!! I also had little problems making the body fit with the frame, but i'm pretty happy the way it came out.

McLaren drivers out of title race

Is it now a three-way battle for the title? © Getty Images
Fernando Alonso is still the driver in the best position to win the drivers? title according to the Daily Telegraph?s Tom Cary.
?Focus and concentration will be of paramount importance and there is none stronger in this regard than Ferrari?s Fernando Alonso.?
The Guardian?s Oliver Owen thinks that it is Mark Webber?s title to lose now, and that this may be the Australian?s last realistic chance of winning the title.
?He has driven beautifully. Monaco and Silverstone spring to mind. He has been an uncompromising racer, not giving Vettel or Lewis Hamilton an inch in Turkey and Singapore respectively. Most importantly, he has largely avoided the bouts of brain fade that can wreck a season ? his on-track hooning in Melbourne when racing Hamilton being the only exception. But there is a feeling that for Webber it is now or never, that a chance of a tilt at the title may never come again. He is certainly driving as if that is the case and that has been his strength.?
According to The Mirror?s Byron Young, both McLaren drivers are now out of the title hunt after their fourth and fifth place finishes in Suzuka.
?McLaren's title hopes died yesterday in a weekend from Hell at Suzuka. Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton finished fourth and fifth in a Japanese Grand Prix they had to win to have the remotest chance of keeping their title bid alive."
The Sun?s Michael Spearman was of the same opinion, saying ?Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button's title hopes were in tatters after a shocker in Japan.?

Bernie Ecclestone - No plans to put the brakes on

© Getty Images
In an exclusive interview with the Guardian as his 80th birthday approaches, F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone speak out about a variety of subjects, from the future of the sport to Margaret Thatcher, Hitler, Saddam Hussein, democracy, football and what continues to drive him.
The way I feel at the moment, why stop? I do it because I enjoy it. And yesterday is gone. I don't care what happened yesterday. What else would I do? People retire to die. I don't get any individual pleasure because we don't win races or titles in this job. I'm like most business people. You look back at the end of the year and you see what you've achieved by working out how much money the company has made. That's it.

Cannonball Run 2011

Okay folks it's that time again. Lets kick the tires and light the fires.

As I've mentioned in the announcement thread, this is the thirtieth anniversary of the film, The Cannonball Run. For me and a lot of others, it helped forge the love of cars and more specificly car movies. It still puts a smile on my face.

The rules.

Your car MUST represent a car that "could" have appeared in the 1981 film. It must be a 1981 or older vehicle, and must use the technology and stylings of the day. If you plan on using some tech or items that someone finds in question it is up to the BUILDER to provide proof that it was in use back in the day. So rule of thumb, if in doubt, do your research. * I'm no auto expert, so I'm relying on the SA community to help keep us honest on this rule.*

The car must represent a car that you would like to race across country. Remember huge horsepower is great quarter mile, but you should be thinking reliability to drive from NY to LA.

Any scale.

No diecast.

The race is open to vehicles of any origin, foreign or domestic. It does not have to be a car that was commecially available in the U.S.. If you wanna race a Holden, by all means do so.

A started kit are allowed as long as you are NOT more than 25% along.

A parts box build or a tear down & rebuild are fine also.

We'd like to see an unstarted kit or whatever mess-o-parts you are starting from.

Wheels are gonna be a bear on this build. Remember 1 millimeter is roughly 1 scale inch if the kit is 1/25. So if your wheels are much larger than 16 millimeters across, they are gonna be too big .  Mixing scales is gonna be a pain too, a 1/24 scale rim is 17-18 millimeters across so on a 1/25 scale body they are going to look too large.

The last day of this CBP is going to be December 1st 2011. A bout two weeks prior I'll open a thread for you to post pics of your completed builds. On Dec 2 I'll close that thread and open a poll for our peers here to vote on their favorite.

You may build as many models for this CBP as you have time for, HOWEVER, you may only enter ONE car for the poll in December. So pick your best one. After all you can't drive more than one car at a time can you?

Anyone can enter this CBP AT ANY TIME. As long as we see the beginning, a build progression and an end result, I don't care if you knock one out on the weekend before the race.

Let's get to it.

Cadillac CTS-V650 Sport Wagon by Hennessey

The Cadillac CTS-V Sport Wagon is already a car that can get most enthusiasts drooling. Just about all of the boxes can get ticked off instantly with just a quick look. Luxurious leather interior? Check. Enough space to haul the wife, the kids, the dogs, and all of the useless knick-knacks they decided to bring on the family road trip? Check. A 556 HP supercharged, Corvette-sourced V8? Check.

For many enthusiasts, the Caddy wagon is just about all they could ask for in a car. Ludicrously fast, reasonably priced, and practical all at once. What more could they possibly want? Well, as Jeremy Clarkson would say, ?MORE POWERRRRRRR!?

That’s right, folks. In true tuner fashion, Hennessey Performance near Houston, Texas decided that the CTS-V Sport Wagon needed just a tad more power.

More details on the Hennessey Cadillac CTS-V650 Sport Wagon after the jump.

Cadillac CTS-V650 Sport Wagon by Hennessey originally appeared on topspeed.com on Saturday, 19 March 2011 12:00 EST.
