Well, since it has been four builds since I last built a Ford, I had to bring another blue oval to the bench. This is kind of going to be a "in the meantime" build while gathering parts, paint, and info for another upcomming Ford project. There always seems to be some controversy in the automotive world as to if these cars were Fairlanes or Torinos, though the Cobra was based on the Fairlane 500 series and was devoid of any Torino (or even Fairlane) badging. So I'm sticking to my guns and calling it a Fairlane Cobra.
I've got some Model Master Guards Red for the body, and will combine it with a white interior. I'll be doing a couple small changes/mods to make it a little more visually appealing, though I will be keeping the one piece chassis. The air cleaner will be replaced with the Ram Air one from the Revell '68 Mustang GT, and I may cut out the interior console and replace it with the one out of Revell's '70 Torino Cobra. It seems much closer to accurate than what the AMT kit offers. But before anything else......
.....first to go will be those nasty ribs in on the radiator support. They are hollow inside, so I will shave off the front side first and fill the voids with some rod cut in half, then shave down the back sides. I will leave just enough on the bottom for the tabs on the chassis to slip into. I'll post up more pics when some progress is made.
Thanks for looking!
