This is my early 80s Ford LTL 9000 that I'm building for the 2010 Cannonball Run CBP. I'm scratchbuiling a custom 180 inch sleeper with a wheelbase of probably about 300-320 inches. I was going to use the kit's older Cummins diesel, but I'm now thinking of something larger, much larger. I'm not sure exactly what will be under the hood, I have a couple ideas, but all I know is I'm like Tim Taylor, I need MORE POWER!! So far I have the cab and hood assembled ready for primer and paint in the spring, and have started the stretch on the sleeper.
To make the frame for the floor of the sleeper, I used evergreen 257 rectangular tubing,
cut it to length,
sanded the edges to match the contour of the sleeper front and back walls,
and used Ambroid Proweld to glue the floor frame together.
Just to give you an idea of the length of the stretch, here's the kit's floor:
I crudely mocked the sleeper up and also with a stock Italeri frame I had laying around (and may donate some length).
I still have to make the sleeper sides and cut and stretch the highrise roof, in addition to lengthening the frame. Stay tuned, more to come.
